Sex toys for women were once seen as deviant or used only by lonely, single women; however sex toy stigma has changed over the years for women and now more and more couples are finding pleasure in female sex toys. But what about men? Some say there is still quite a lot of stigma among men who use sex toys.
Women today often feel more open when it comes to discussing their use of sex toys, thanks to online porn sites that display this type of female sex act quite frequently. On the contrary, men are much less likely to admit their use of sex toys for fear of ridicule. It’s a double standard because men are afraid of being labeled as perverted or has having an unhealthy fetish if they gravitate towards sex toys. Despite the ongoing stigma, male sex toy sales have risen by 1,000% in the past 10 years. The bestselling sex toy is the Fleshlight; which is a realistic-looking vagina in a container designed to look like a torch. When men were interviewed about what sex toys they liked the best, this is what they revealed:
51% of men who own a sex toy own a cock ring. Cock rings are the most popular followed by Fleshlight, prostate massagers, penis pumps and stamina rings.
78% of the men said that they would consider buying a sex toy for solo use. 22% said “no way”.
69% wouldn’t mind if their partner used a male sex toy on them.
60% of the men who replied said they have used a female sex toy on their partner and enjoyed the experience.
Only 4% said it was weird.
Things got interesting around the turn of the decade, though. Masturbation sleeve maker Tenga, launched in 2005 in Japan, started to get a foothold in the US with products using innovative textures to move beyond mimicking flesh, and pushed sleeker, more modern designs. Meanwhile a host of developers realized what men playing with vibrators had long known: dicks like vibration. They started incorporating vibes into everything from cock rings to masturbation sleeves, creating new bestselling toys. Vibration opened up a new world.
